Volunteer With Us
Everything we do depends on the work of our volunteers. Our main volunteer need is working with students in the classroom as a Teacher, Teacher Assistant, or Studio Aide. We also can always use help with organizing our storage room and maintaining sewing machines. We believe that volunteering is a donation of your valuable labor, and we are committed to offering flexible & sustainable volunteer opportunities.
FAQs
When can I volunteer?
The short answer is, whenever there’s a class scheduled. You can help out with the same class every week, or you can schedule shifts based on your availability. We try to create an environment where you want to keep volunteering long-term, so we expect that your schedule & availability will change over time. We just ask that you commit to a sustainable schedule and promptly communicate any changes.
Do I have to be really good at [sewing/knitting/crochet/etc]?
Nope! Beginners are more than welcome, as long as you know slightly more than the students or you’re able to pick things up quickly and help field questions while the Lead Volunteer is busy. We try to maintain a high ratio of volunteers to students so that students get plenty of attention and volunteers don’t feel rushed, so there’s plenty of room for beginners to volunteer and work 1:1 with students while more experienced volunteers are leading the class and answering more complicated questions.
What’s the classroom environment like?
Where are classes held?
Obviously everyone is there to learn new skills, but more than anything, we’re just trying to have fun. Between students and volunteers, there’s usually at least 3 or 4 different languages spoken, so we take things slow and make sure students & volunteers have plenty of time to understand each other. Most of our students are fluent in English, and for those who aren’t, we try to make sure there’s at least 1 or 2 other women who can speak the same language. Ultimately, we’re in class to socialize and learn from each other, so we do what we can to keep things relaxed so that everyone can have a good time.
Where do I sign up?
Most of our classes are held at our classrooms in St. Paul, but throughout 2026, we will be expanding to offer regular & one-off classes throughout the East Metro.
